Ravelry: Waiting for spring poncho

As the warmer weather gets closer with the coming of Spring, sometimes we still need something for that “in-between” days that are still cool and breezy.

This poncho provides coverage on the shoulders, but it features open stitches as well as an open side to make it Spring friendly, as is wearable during the cool and windy days of early to mid-Spring.

This statement poncho will go well with any yarn color, but
making it with Spring-inspired colors will make it a staple piece
for Spring time, making it a great piece to enhance any outfit
neutral colors.

Waiting for spring poncho is crocheted top down, first worked
in rounds, to offer a good shoulder coverage, but is changed to
rows to shape that lovely opening that not only makes this
piece more fresh, but also provides an unique look.

Besides the main pattern, I added a couple of variations you can try. Like closing the side of your poncho with a ribbon or chain stitch string. You could also add ribbon around the neck opening to make look pretty and also to control if you want a smaller opening.

Here you can see DomiknitsCreations version of the Waiting for Spring poncho. She decided to add the suggested closure, and also added a color block a the end of the pattern.
