Hello crafters! I’m really exited to share with everyone this post with a Basic Preemie Crochet Hat Free Pattern.
This little beginner friendly crochet hat is the first of a series of basic crocheted hats.
I’m thinking of naming this series “Hats for everyone” or “Hats in every size” (By the way, I would really appreciate your opinion about which name goes better with this series. If is not too much to ask, leave a comment letting me know which name is your favorite)
I know there are infinite free crochet patters around the web. And you can find all kind of sizes and all kind of designs and faculties.
But I really wanted to make a collection of a beginner friendly pattern, and make more than the basic sizes.
I decided to make them beginner friendly so anyone can benefit from them, and to make them in all standard sizes, also to benefit anyone that wants to create hats for friends, family or even to sell at craft shows or etsy, or anywhere really. I love when people show me they use my patterns, and I’m also very happy to see if they’re selling their finished object, because that means my patterns are helping someone!

Basic Preemie Crochet Hat Free Pattern Specifics:
- Skill level: Beginner (needs to work in rounds, but video tutorial is provided at the end)
- Gauge: In single crochet = 15 st. by 20 rows = 4 inches (10 cm)
- Stitches used and abbreviations: (click on links for tutorials)
Ch = chain
Sc = single crochet
Sl st = slip stitch
St = Stitch(es) - Yarn: DK weight (8 ply – 3 : Light)
- Yardage: 60 – 75 yards ( 65 – 69 meters)
- Hook: G 4.0 mm/4.5mm
Basic Preemie Crochet Hat Free Pattern
In a magic ring:
Round 1: 6 sc. (6)
Round 2: Ch1. 2sc in each st. (12)
Round 3: Ch1. *1 sc. 2sc in next st. – Repeat from * until end – sl st to close round. (18)
Round 4: Ch1. *2 sc. 2sc in next st. – Repeat from * until end – sl st to close round. (24)
Round 5: Ch1. *3 sc. 2sc in next st. – Repeat from * until end – sl st to close round. (30)
Round 6: Ch1. *4 sc. 2sc in next st. – Repeat from * until end – sl st to close round. (36)
Round 7: Ch1. *5 sc. 2sc in next st. – Repeat from * until end – sl st to close round. (42)
Round 8 to 15: Ch1. Sc in each st around. Sl st to close.

HATS IN EVERY SIZE. SOMETIMES IT’S HARD TO FIND A PATTERN IN THE SIZE YOU NEED SO THIS PATTERN WOULD DO FOR ANY AGE
As I come from UK,and you are showing USA hook sizes first,is the patterns in USA instructions or in UK instructions? I can do both,but just would like the info on the pattern to help if I haven’t missed it that is showing it on the pattern! Thanks Ivy
