Do you want to know how to make cute decorative storage boxes and recycle some old cardboard boxes? You may be the kind of person to use backyard storage sheds or a spare room in the house to hold your things and just find all that cardboard to be such a drab. This tutorial will help you to spruce those spaces up with color, if you want, you can even color coordinate your boxes so you know which box has what! But do you walk into that storage space and just find yourself against walls of impassable cardboard? If that happens, then maybe you want to consider getting a bigger storage space, like the large backyard sheds in PA.
Just follow this DIY Decorative Storage Box tutorial, and you’ll have beautiful boxes to organize your stuff and also decorate your bedroom, living room, craft room, office, or any other space you decide to put it. I love keeping all my things safe in boxes like these. I just think that boxes are always a really useful storage option. They come in so many different sizes, and you can fill them with just about anything and use them to keep your rooms tidy! Honestly, I do not know what I would do without all of the storage boxes in my home office. All my things would be stashed under the furniture and it would all be so messy! That being said, if you’re looking for heavy duty storage then this DIY tutorial isn’t for you. Correspondingly, if you’re looking for containers to store equipment and tools, metal storage can be better than wooden you can then choose to decorate it if you wish. Now, onto what you’ll need to make some decorative boxes!
Materials
Any cardboard box the size you need/want.
Some yarn.
A crochet hook.
Glue gun and glue.
First, crochet a very, very long chain base. If you don’t know how to crochet, you can use the yarn as it is, but it won’t have the same texture effect. You can also create a long string knitting. The chain stitch is the very basic crochet stitch, you can easily learn to watch this video: How to Make a Crochet Chain
Don’t fasten off, as you may need to make it longer or shorter.
Begin to glue the chain string to the top of the box. Be very generous with the glue in the first few rows. As those will be the most exposed to move. After the 3rd row, you can start using less glue, maybe add some pearls of glue with small spaces in between. If you decide to use lots of glue all the way, is also good.
Just keep adding glue and moving your string around. It will take some time, but you will have a beautiful result to enhance your home decor, it’s worth it.
Once you get to the bottom, you can stop, or keep going as I did.
As you can see, I had a little too much. But is an easy fix. Just undo the chains until you get exactly what you need.
Fasten off. And glue end.
You can add a little ornament or applique. I added a little crochet flower. You can find the pattern to make this crochet flower here: Headband with rosette. The pattern for the rosette is in the middle.
