How to start a blog in 15 minutes or less.
Fist Step: Hosting and Domain name:
First you need a place where your blog will be stored and shared to the internet. This will be your hosting. ALL your blog post, pages, images, etc will be saved in your hosting, and from there it will be shared to the world!
The importance of getting your own hosting is so you can include ads on your blog and start monetizing it right away. Most free platforms don’t let you place any kind of ads, since they are the ones placing them. Is the cost of having it free, they make the money, not you. You could, if you wanted, take a look at something like this WordPress hosting – fully managed system to give you a better idea of what can be offered to you to help improve your blog. There are loads of different web host providers out there that you could use if you wished. Sometimes, it’s better to just have a quick look round, particularly if this is a new blog. As you want to make sure that you get the best one for you, this might mean that you check out something like this Hosting Foundry’s reviews to give you a better idea of what you should be looking for.
You also need your domain name, a domain name is the www.yoursite.com (My domain name is www.craftytuts.com) Most hosting sites offer a free domain name with the hosting membership. You could buy a separate domain name, but if you are just starting out, what a better option than free? Whether you decide to pay money for a domain or get one for free, it is important that you get one as otherwise, you won’t have a starting base for your blog. When you finally have a domain of your own, you will be part of the 351.8 million registered domain names in the world, with the statistic continuing to grow at every opportunity it has. This is one of the most important things you must do when looking at creating your own blog.
Bluehost.com offers a very inexpensive hosting membership and FREE domain name. You will need to brainstorm a few ideas for your name, since your choice might not be available. But don’t worry, you will be able to check the possible names first, and ONLY when you find a domain that you like, then you will be taken to the next step to continue and start your blog. For someone else’s opinion on Bluehost, why not this post (https://inlinehostblogger.com/siteground-vs-hostgator/) comparing Bluehost with Hostgator!
So, go to bluehost.com and check what names are available. (Don’t worry it won’t charge you until you find the domain name you want and continue with the next steps)
Now you only need to follow Bluehost.com instructions and choose your plan!
Personally, I recommend the Basic plan. I started with that plan. But that is up to you! Prefer any of the other plans? Go ahead!
Now, to choose a domain name! (Don’t worry, remember that comes free! and if you can’t find anything you like, you haven’t completed the registration just yet)
Once you find your domain name, just create your account!
After that, just select your plan and options, and then fill up the payment method. All easy, just like buying something from any other website.
Second Step: Install WordPress
As of September 2017, Bluehost automatically installs Word Press! So you can start working on your site right away!
You won’t need to look for an install button or get lost on your dashboard, the process is easier than ever!
Create Your Password
As easy as typing it in. Ta da!
Start Building:
After you chose your password, you can start building your blog!
You’ve guest it, just click the “Start Building” button.
Dashboard:
The “Start Building” button will redirect you to your blog dashboard. And you will be asked what kind of blog you wish to build, a Business Blog or Personal Blog.
The only difference between blogs, is that if you chose the Business option, the building process will prompt you to also install woocommerce, which is a cart plug it so you can sell products.
So if you don’t have any products to sell just yet, go ahead and chose the Personal Blog. (You can always instal the plug in later, if you develop producs)
THAT’S IT! Now you know how to start a blog!
On you dashboard you will find the “Posts” button, all yu need to do is click it, then “Add New” and you can start posting!
Best of wishes with your new blog, and Congratulations!
